And why can’t she stop thinking about the boy from the country club? The special bond takes a turn for the worse when Suze decides to start dating again.  She hasn’t had a man in her life since Megan’s father left ten years ago.
Enter two mysterious young men, Megan’s new classmate, sinfully attractive bad boy, Guy Matson, and the dangerously handsome art dealer, Armando.  Before long Megan and Suze both wind up in steamy relationships.  But neither of the handsome guys is quite what he seems.  In fact, one of them is Satan, with his sights set on a new bride.  Megan has precious little time to figure out how to stop him.  If she doesn’t, either Megan or Suze are quite literally going to HELL.

When his unwanted visions of the future begin to suggest that the girl he likes could be in danger, he has no choice but to take on destiny and demand it reconsider. Monster Mash: Emlyn says… I. AM. WEREWOLF! And why's that you ask? First off, my name (Chand) literally means moon in Sanskrit. Next, werewolves are super cool--we can blend in with common folk, and then out of nowhere, kapow! I'm a werewolf, and I sure am hungry. Lastly, Team Jacob 100%. Now excuse me while I cock back my head and howl at my namesake.   Patti Larsen, author of Family Magic "Patti Larsen is truly gifted because I read Family Magic cover to cover and I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the next installment!" ~ from Goodreads review Sixteen-year-old Sydlynn Hayle is the daughter of a powerful witch and a demon lord, but she just wants to be ordinary. Blog Tour - Unnatural Law Review and Character Interview

I am really excited today to bring you this guest post by the amazing author and all around wonderful person, Natasha Larry. I'm so glad that she picked Matt to "interview" he is my favorite character as well.

Hi, Natasha Larry here. Today I’d like to share a character interview with the lovely Matthew Carter, my favorite Unnatural Law character. In this interview, I am asking the questions and my lovely fiancé, Dave, is answering as Matt. Enjoy!

Q: So, Matthew… how are you today?

A: Well, first of all, Matt, please. And, I’m fantastic. Miraculous as always.

Q: (Laughs) A bit conceited, are we?

A: Absolutely not. Being conceited is thinking you’re better than you really are. I really am this good. (Winks at interviewer)

Q: (Laughs) Wow, you are just adorable. Okay, moving on. Tick off a few of your hobbies.

A: Well, I love building computers. I always find advanced quantum physics relaxing. I love to play and watch football as well.

Q: I’m sorry; did you just say that advanced quantum physics relaxes you? And you play football? That’s a wide assortment of hobbies.

A: Well, I’ve always been a bit of a natural athlete. I find it exhilarating, and it helps stop the racing thoughts. And as far as the quantum physics is concerned, it’s like a lot of people with crossword puzzles. It’s just a way for me to exercise my brain and relax a bit.

Q: Okay, well I guess that makes sense. Now, on to what everyone wants to know. Why did you break up with Jaycie Lerner?  I mean, how could you just leave someone you claimed to love so much?

A: I do love Jay. There was obviously something going on with her that she wasn’t ready to tell me. And I wanted to give her some space to figure that out. Plus, no one likes to be lied to by the person they love. And I knew-I knew each and every time she lied to me. How would that make you feel?

Q: Well, I can’t imagine that would feel good. Maybe we should move on.

A: (smiles) I think that’s a fantastic idea.

Q: What did it feel like when you found out about Jaycie and her family? Were you freaked out?

A: Well, of course I was a little freaked out. But, after I had time to wrap my head around it, it made perfect sense. I always knew something was up with them; I just didn’t have enough information to figure out exactly what that was yet. You have to remember, I grew up with these people, so being afraid simply wasn’t an option.

Q: Is it weird working for Jaycie’s godfather, John Gramm? What exactly did he hire you to do?

A: Johnny? Weird? Never! John and I have a special relationship. *smiles* It’s a mutual intellectual respect and a great appreciation for each other’s humor. He hired me to help transcribe his files, extrapolate on his theories, and to help figure out the key to Jay controlling her powers.

Q: Speaking of powers. Whose power do you think is the coolest?

A: Definitely Haylee’s. It amazes me that she has the ability to use the evil in someone’s soul as a weapon and also to use the good in someone to heal. It’s incredibly impressive. Plus, as a momma’s boy-I’m kind of biased. I respect the hell out of what she did to help my mother.

Q:  What’s it like dating a telepath? What’s it like dating a girl whose father is the most powerful telepath in the world?

A: I don’t worry too much about it with Jay. I know she doesn’t eavesdrop on my thoughts. But, the idea that Dr. Lerner might overhear some of the things I’m thinking… *shudders visibly* Next question please, sweetheart
.
Q: Okay. When John Gramm refers to you as “the alpha,” what exactly does that mean? What does being macho have to do with being perfect, as you are so often described?

A: What he means by “the alpha,” is that I am literally the beginning of human evolution. So, the term alpha here has nothing to do with masculinity . Alpha here means that I am genetically perfect. Designed to be the most attractive to women and, by my nature, dominant over most other men.

Q: Very interesting. So, of all the paranormal and fantasy creatures you have been exposed to, which race is your favorite and least favorite?

A: The vampires are my favorite. Only because they make the most sense to me, as a man of science. Plus, they all seem ridiculously polite. My least favorite are definitely those fairies. They kind of look like giant, creepy butterflies. So not cool.

Q: *laughs* Okay, can you shed some light on what this elusive Core business is? Are you a part of it?

A: I can in the next book. *smiles*

Q: Last question because we’re almost out of time. Are you still angry with John for the pink hot pants situation?

A: *laughs* Well, no I’m not. I understand why he did it. But, let’s never talk about the pink hot pants…ever again.

What an amazing character interview Natasha, thank you so much!!

Unnatural Law
Author: Natasha Larry
Released: October 26, 2011
Genre: YA Paranormal
Publisher: Penumbra Publishing
Source: Bewitching Book Tours
Pages: according to my ereader 283
ASIN: B005ZZJO20

Summary from Goodreads:
Seventeen-year-old Jaycie Lerner’s psychokinetic power surge is over, and her astounding powers are under control for the time being – sort of. As she struggles to maintain her humanity in the face of the awesome terror and responsibility of her abilities, she also yearns for the chance at a normal life – and a relationship with Matt Carter, the best friend she had to leave behind. But Matt’s got a few tricks up his sleeve, and he’s not about to give up on his feelings for Jaycie.

As Jaycie and her family grapple with the day-to-day routine of trying to keep their world together, Jaycie’s mother figure, Allison Young, endures a personal crisis of her own. The superhuman blonde possesses the physical equivalent of Jaycie’s awesome psychic power. So evolved, at ninety-two she still looks twenty. But what good is extended life when everyone else around her is so fragile? With no one to share her unusual life, she’s a uniquely lonely woman yearning for the romantic love she sees all around her. But in a dream she gets her wish – and it quickly turns to a nightmare for everyone else in her life. The memory of a rose is all she can hold onto in the storm of obsession that nearly sweeps her away.

Things quickly turn deadly for the vampires, but the Dey-Vah Guard fairies refuse to acknowledge there’s an imbalance in the nature they protect. As the danger gets ever closer to Jaycie and her family, the race is on to find answers before a secret plot can destroy them all.

My thoughts:

I am a huge fan of Natasha's book Darwin's Children, so I was super excited to read Unnatural Law. Natasha has really brought something totally new and exciting to the YA paranormal book scene. Yeah, there are vampires and even fairies, but not like any I've ever read about before.

Once again I was quickly drawn in to the character's lives. They are written in such a way that they seem very real. While I was reading Unnatural Law it felt more like I was hearing their voices in my head rather than just reading about them in a book. For me that is a huge deal because I really love reading books that are primarily character driven.

While Jaycie is struggling to learn control after her power surge a lot is going on in the lives of her family. Allison isn't feeling quite right, and doesn't really understand why. Haylee is learning more about her powers, and her family. Matt is learning that there is more to him than meets the eye, and dealing with not one but two protective "dads". While Mason and Johnny are trying to hold everything together in the midst of a weakening Dey-Vah guard.

Some of the highlights in Unnatural Law for me were meeting a few of the new characters, Sylvia Nash is probably my favorite new character. She is one of those women that you hope to get to know one day because you just know she will always make you laugh. Steven and Alonzo were both adorable and I'm hoping we will get to know them better in the next book.  What I was really excited about as well was my favorite character from Darwin's Children returning. Matt! Oh how I love thee, and now I know why!  I really enjoyed how Matt's character evolves in this book. I think Natasha nailed character development so completely in this book. I feel like I know all these characters personally.

The writing is fast paced, easy to read and witty as hell. The characters are lovable and their interactions are some of the best I've read. The heat between Matt and Jaycie is scorching hot! A book sure to be added to my favorites of 2011 list.

Pyxis Review and Giveaway!

Pyxis: The Discovery (Pyxis Series Book 1)
Author: K.C. Neal
Released: November 4, 2011
Genre: YA Paranormal Fantasy
Published by: StoneHouse Ink
Source: I received this book from the author for an honest review.
ISBN: 9780615549

Summary from Goodreads:
Two worlds... one 16-year-old girl must learn to protect them both.

The nightmares haunting Corinne and her friend Mason hint at a universe that exists beyond the one they know. Her destiny is to protect a weakness between the two worlds, but her mentor is dead. As Corinne and Mason search for answers, she tries to ignore the sparks igniting between them, but can't deny she feels safe only when he's nearby. Will they find help before their nightmares break free?

My thoughts:

K.C. Neal has done a fabulous job of writing a young adult novel that is completely unique from all of the other young adult novels that I've read. From the first page I was smiling, and knew that I was going to like this book.

I think that the opening scene in Pyxis is one of my favorite. It immediately gives the reader insight into Corinne and her friendship with Angeline and her rivalry if you will with Sophie. Without saying that Corinne isn't a part of the "popular crowd" you knew just by how all of the characters interacted. I love it when an author doesn't have to tell you what's going on because they show you through the story. I didn't want to stop reading once I had started, luckily Pyxis is only 178 pages so I didn't have to stop until I was finished.

This book is full of friendship, mystery and first love. K.C. Neal has definitely earned a new reader in me with Pyxis. Needless to say I am anxious to find out what's in store for Corninne in Alight:The Peril book 2 in the Pyxis series.

You can connect with K.C. Neal at the following sites:

Pyxis is available at the following:

OK, now on to the fun stuff. K.C. Neal would like to give one of my very lucky readers an ecopy of Pyxis. Just follow the directions on the ralfecopter below for your chance. The contest will be open for entries for one week. Also be sure to check out K.C. Neal's blog for a chance to win your very own KINDLE.

Neurotic Thoughts on Anna and the French Kiss

Anna and the French Kiss
Author: Stephanie Perkins
Released: December 10, 2010
Genre: Young Adult Contemporary
Published by: Dutton
Source: borrowed from my local library
Pages: 372
ISBN: 0525423273

Summary from Goodreads:
Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. Which is why she is less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris - until she meets Etienne St. Clair: perfect, Parisian (and English and American, which makes for a swoon-worthy accent), and utterly irresistible. The only problem is that he's taken, and Anna might be, too, if anything comes of her almost-relationship back home.

As winter melts into spring, will a year of romantic near - misses end with the French kiss Anna - and readers - have long awaited?

I'm finding this review so hard to write mostly because of how much I LOVED this book! This was one of those books that sucked me in from the very first page. Stephanie Perkins has a way of writing a book that makes you to feel what her characters are feeling. She makes you love the people that they love, and hate the ones that they hate.

While reading AATFK I was IN Paris. I don't know if Perkins has ever been to Paris or if she just did her research VERY well, and really how would I know cuz I've never been to Paris, but she wrote it just the way I imagine Paris to be. I also loved that she didn't throw in all the usual places you read about. I mean they were in there to a degree, but she focused more on the things you would want to find if you were living there and not just visiting.

Anna was a great character even when she was being annoying and unreasonable she was so real. I felt like she was my friend that was driving me crazy, and not just a book character I was reading about. As my friend I wanted her to be happy, and get the guy. Then Perkin's went and wrote this amazingly flawed character, St. Claire. I really couldn't help myself from falling for him.  Even though he made me so mad sometimes I couldn't help but adore him, it was easy to see why Anna was so head over heels for him.

Stephanie Perkins just became one of those authors for me that I will have to read every book she writes as soon as it's released!

Neurotic Thoughts on Dead Is Not An Option

Dead Is Not An Option
Author: Marlene Perez
Released: May 2, 2011
Genre: YA Paranormal
Published By: Graphia
Source: NetGalley and Graphia
Pages: 240
ISBN: 0547345933

Summary from Goodreads:
It’s springtime of senior year, and psychic sleuth Daisy Giordano is preparing to say goodbye to Nightshade High. But no college acceptance letters have arrived yet, and she’s beginning to worry about where she’ll end up come fall—and if it will be anywhere near her boyfriend, Ryan. But that’s not the only uncertainty Daisy’s dealing with. There’s a vamps-versus-shifters war going on in Nightshade, and things are so tense that there is talk of canceling the prom. The conflict is carrying over to the Giordano home, since Rose and Daisy are both dating werewolves and Poppy’s new boyfriend is a vampire.

Can the paranormal community in Nightshade finally find peace? And will Daisy and her friends survive graduation? All of these questions and more are answered in the latest explosive installment in the Dead Is series.

The Dead Is series is just plain fun. Every time I pick up one of these books I get sucked in, and don't want to put the book down until I'm done. I love revisiting the town of Nightshade and all of it's paranormal happenings. There is always a little bit of romance and a lot of mystery. I love how each book is wrapped up without a huge cliff hanger every time. Since I don't want to give anything away for anyone that hasn't read the rest of the series I will just say that as the last book in the series I thought things were wrapped up as well as they could be for a group of kids just finishing high school. I mean who really knows what waits for you after senior year? If you like light paranormal romance mystery novels, and haven't picked up the Dead Is series I think you may be missing out.

I just found out that there will be a spin-off series about a new character named Jessica starting out her freshman year at Nightshade high. I really hope that Daisy and Ryan at least make a few cameo appearances.

Dead Is A Battlefield
Expected Publication: March 2012
Summary from Goodreads:

Jessica Walsh is starting her freshman year at Nightshade High and trying to forget about the tragic events surrounding her brother’s graduation. She wants to have a normal high school experience. But that’s easier said than done in Nightshade.

When a new boy shows up at school, the girls are infected with a case of seriously creepy crushes. But when their obsession turns to violence, Jessica and her friends start to wonder if there’s more going on than just a little friendly rivalry. Are the smitten girls turning into love zombies?

And Jessica has other worries—like her crush on Dominic Gray, the cute but moody new singer for Side Effects May Vary, and the mysterious tattoo that appeared on her arm one day and lets her know whenever there is trouble brewing. Jessica learns she's a Virago, a woman warrior chosen to fight evil whenever it threatens her hometown. But does a lowly freshman really have what it takes to keep Nightshade safe?

Will this family survive? What happens when love just isn't enough?

Jodi Picoult fans will love this beautifully written and absorbing novel.

DESCRIPTION

Protecting their children comes naturally for Zoe and Will Tyler—until their daughter Leah decides to actively destroy her own future.

Leah grew up in a privileged upper-middle class world. Her parents spared no expense for her happiness; she had all-but secured an Ivy League scholarship and a future as a star athlete. Then she met Todd.

Leah’s parents watch helplessly as their daughter falls into a world of drugs, sex, and wild parties. While Will attempts to control his daughter’s every move to prevent her from falling deeper into this dangerous new life, Zoe prefers to give Leah slack in the hope that she may learn from her mistakes. Their divided approach drives their daughter out of their home and a wedge into their marriage.

Twelve-year-old Justine observes Leah’s rebellion from the shadows of their fragmented family. She desperately seeks her big sister’s approval and will do whatever it takes to obtain it. Meanwhile she is left to question whether her parents love her and whether God even knows she exists.

What happens when love just isn’t enough? Who will pay the consequences of Leah’s vagrant lifestyle? Can this broken family survive the destruction left in Leah’s wake?

This mesmerizing debut novel tells the tale of a contemporary American family caught in the throes of adolescent rebellion - a heartbreaking, funny, ultimately redemptive quest for love, independence, connection and grace.

There are no quick and easy solutions here for Leah or for her parents. “It is our choices...that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”

J. K. Rowling, Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets, 1999
Finding Balance – Or Not As a young mom with four active daughters, involved in school, music and sports, my life was a hodge-podge of bustling activity. I wrote part-time, at night or in the wee hours of the morning, while my family slept. Back then, I fantasized about a time when my life would be my own – no more afternoons spent driving from one activity to the next, no volunteer work, no laundry fairy multiplying the loads. I imagined long, uninterrupted days at my desk, immersed in my work. Now our daughters are grown, two with families of their own. While, yes, I occasionally spend 10, 12, 14 hours at my desk, those days are rare. Like most women writers, I constantly struggle to find balance. My husband is a terrific guy. When the girls were little, he, not I, got up in the middle of the night. Even now, he does more than his fair share of the chores. When our daughters need something fixed - their car breaks down, for example – they don’t hesitate to call him. With emotional issues, I’m the one they rely on. Believe me, talking is far more time-consuming than finding a mechanic to fix the transmission. Whenever the need arises, because I’m a mom first, before anything else, my work takes a backseat. Deadlines get pushed back, the article or story goes unedited, the book sits in a file, waiting, neglected. And I feel guilty for letting it go. If I do focus on work, I feel guilty for not devoting more time to my family. Either way, I feel bad about myself. Every female writer I know says the same thing. We love our families – we want to give of ourselves – but why does it have to be either-or? Years ago, I attended a seminar with Alice Hoffman as the keynote speaker. It was not merely that I loved and admired her work. No, I wanted to be Alice Hoffman. This successful female writer put out a bestselling book every year. And they were good. Very good. And she had kids. This was a woman who did it all, and did it all well. I couldn’t wait to learn how. Imagine my surprise when she talked about the difficulty of striking a balance. “My kids,” she said, “think I don’t have a job.” Say what? Would the kids think the same if their dad were a writer? Probably not. Because he’d have an office and it would be off-limits. Most men I know store their roles in separate compartments, to be taken out, dusted off, and worn at appropriate times. Our role is fluid. We can’t turn off, tune out or otherwise escape family responsibility. We’re always on. In all fairness, fathers are fathers every day of their life. The difference is, we mothers are moms every minute of ours. I don’t resent this, not for an instant, and I’m sure you don’t either. I want to be with my family. In fact, as I’ve come to realize, I’ve actively chosen this life. Men find balance – by marrying us. Yet, even if we had wives, their needs, I suspect, would be at least equal to ours. Most women are people-centric. Sure, we value success, but we’re relationship-oriented. The people we love truly are our reason for living. I’ve spent a lifetime seeking balance only to find that it doesn’t exist. Balance is elusive, a figment of our imagination, reinforced by culture in movies and TV. If we’re to be contented, we have to let go. We’ve got to accept that we can’t always do it all – and quit feeling guilty! She who dies with the most toys – or the cleanest house or the best brownies - does not necessarily win. Or maybe she does. But, believe me, unless she’s got ice running through her veins, she feels guilty too. That’s who we are. Better to accept it than always fight and feel guilty. Our lives are big and wonderful and, yes, messy. And that’s OK. So go ahead – kiss those boo-boos. Call a friend. Spend an extra hour or two at your desk. The beds will get made, the cleaning picked up, the laundry folded. Maybe not in that order. Really, why does it matter?

My Thoughts on In Leah's Wake
I honestly thought this book was a young adult novel, and even though there isn't anything that a young adult shouldn't read I probably wouldn't say it was geared toward young adults. This book is told from the perspective of all four members of Leah's family. My favorite perspectives were that of the two daughters, though the book definitely would not have been complete without the parents point of views. I found myself putting this book down a little more often than other books, but that may have been because this book is a bit deeper than I usually read, and I needed extra digestion time.
I never went in the direction of Leah as a teenager, but I totally understood her deep need to rebel, to break free of the feeling that someone else is controlling YOUR life. However, as a parent I can see the need to control as a way to keep our children safe, it's hard to let our teens voice their own desires and opinions especially when they may be different than our own. I loved how being the reader of this book I was able to calmly think of all the ways that everyone could have acted and reacted to create completely different outcomes.

In Leah's Wake is a heartbreaking look at a family that has become disconnected, and have lost the ability to communicate with each other. A family that is desperately trying to hold it all together.
