So begins Bite Me, a humorous urban fantasy YA novel set at Hedgehill University for Paranormal Creatures.

In this Animal House meets Christopher Moore-esque story, freshman Talbot Osbourne is under pressure to find a summer job, an affordable apartment, and to not flunk out; otherwise he’ll face the wrath of his werewolf clan back home.  Buddhist, vegetarian vampire Julian St. George has problems, too, but his are more of the being-stalked-by-a-psychotic-slayer type.  After he ousts the intruder from his home, Julian figures that’s the last of that.

Wrong.

Talbot and Julian are forced to partner on a class assignment to study humans in their natural habitat.  That is, a strip club.  But while these two co-eds try to live their para-normal lives and pass their classes, the slayer targets both the university and the club, taking out students with any kind of supernatural abilities.  After Julian’s home is destroyed and he’s nearly killed, the vampire and werewolf form an unlikely—and probably unholy—duo to catch the stalker before the psycho slays them.  If they don’t kill each other first, that is.

Between surviving an apartment with cannibalistic furniture, zombie squirrels, and a strip club where the drinks are scarier than the suspects, Talbot and Julian struggle to catch up to the slayer, who always seems one stake ahead of them.

Throw in a shapeshifter with ferret envy, a nymphomaniac wizard who makes people’s clothes disappear, and the ghost of a five-year-old with the potty mouth of a sailor, and these boys are in for the summer of their lives.  Or deaths.

The spark of pain cleared the haze from my head and the fear from last night doused my veins in ice water. I lay there for several moments, taking deep, calming breaths as I tried to gain control of my spiraling emotions. I was alive--thanks to Daemon, who apparently was also my pillow.

What was the best birthday party you ever had?  Why was it the best?

My best birthday party was my 40th surprise party thrown by my husband, about two years ago. I just told you how young I am…lol!!!  My husband told me in advance to save that date so we can attend his friend’s daughter’s birthday party at the Jazz Kitchen in Downtown Disney. We got dressed up and I even made a Twilight bracelet, knowing she loved Twilight and headed to the party. When we arrived, he held the door for me to enter. Everybody yelled, “Surprise!” I stood there frozen as I glanced the private room. I was so happy to see my family and friends. I started to tremble from being overjoyed and from having all eyes on me. At this point I still couldn’t move until my mom stood in front of me and hugged me. Tears of happiness flowed as I turned to thank my husband. My children, Joshua and Kaitlin looked just as surprised. I wish you could have seen their faces, they were also in shock. They didn’t know either…lol!!!  Each table was decorated with beautiful arrangements of flowers. The cake was specially made to match the theme. He even went to Michael’s to purchase activities for the young ones to do. He even made up games to revolve around me. I couldn’t imagine a more perfect way to celebrate my 40^th. As you all may already know, Michael’s character is based on my husband. He is my guardian angel…hehe!!!

My Thoughts:


Lisa McMann became one of my favorite authors with her Dream Catcher series and I couldn't wait for her to write another novel. So obviously I was very excited to get my hands on Dead To You. 


Dead To You starts off with a bang. Ethan is being reunited with his family after years of everyone thinking that he had been killed by his abductors. Things at his new house are awkward and everyone is struggling with Ethan's arrival. The book goes on to talk about day to day activities of the family trying to get to know each other again, going to counseling, Ethan starting school, and meeting up with an old friend. 


While I was enjoying reading Dead To You I realized that I wasn't really connecting with it on a personal level. I mean usually with these kinds of books I'm bawling hysterically with not just snot but hiccups too. The writing was great and the plot solid, I definitely recommend this book.  Dead To You is a fast read that really kept me interested and looking back I wonder if I didn't get emotionally invested  because either a) the book was written from Ethan's point of view and not his mothers or b) if McMann wrote the book like this on purpose. The problem with option b is I can't really explain what I mean by that without revealing some major spoilers. So if you've read Dead To You and want to talk about it let me know I'd love to see what you think. 


If you've just read this and are wondering "so did she like it?" My answer is yes I really did I just didn't react to it the way I expected. If you are a fan of Lisa McMann I think you'll be glad you picked up Dead To You. 

Waiting on Wednesday (1/11/2012) In Too Deep by Amanda Grace and Mandy Hubbard

I never meant for anyone to get hurt. All I wanted to do that night was make a play for Carter Davis. His heartless rejection was mortifying, but people got the wrong idea when they saw me leaving his bedroom, crying. That’s how rumors of rape started. 

Now girls at school are pouring out their sympathy to me. Guys too. But not everyone’s on my side. The school has become a war zone and the threats are getting scary. What began as poetic justice has morphed into something bigger-forcing me to make a terrible choice.
