Friends & Lovers Trilogy by Bethany Lopez

Title: Friends & Lovers Trilogy: Make it Last, I Choose You, Trust in Me
Author: Bethany Lopez
Genre: Contemporary Romance – novella series
Age Group:  New Adult
Event organized by: AToMR Tours

Make it Last:
In a small town, it's hard to recover from being dumped by your high school sweetheart. That's just what Briana has to do after Colin leaves her to follow his dreams. She focuses her energy into her friendships and the pursuit of her own goal of becoming a chef. Just when she finally feels like she's on the right path, he comes back to town.

Colin knew breaking up with Briana before leaving for college was the right thing to do. He was determined to leave small-town life behind forever, and that included his high school girlfriend. But when a sports injury puts him on the sidelines, he's forced to return home. Seeing Briana again brings back a lot of memories, and Colin wonders if he made the right decision. It doesn't take long for him to realize he wants her back, and this time, he wants to make it last.

I Choose You:
Up until now, Nicole's life has been mapped out for her. She'd go to college, marry Jake and become the upstanding minister's wife. When she leaves that life to begin again in a small town in Texas, she finally has the freedom to live as she chooses. There, she meets Kent, a guy whose charm and passion make it hard to stick to her morals.

Dodging his father’s fists and protecting his twin sister made Kent into the man he is today. He learned by watching his mother stay by his father’s side that it’s better to keep relationships simple. Then he meets Nicole. Her sweet smile and genuine response to him land like punches to his resolve. After a lifetime of learning to protect his heart, can he finally let down his guard?

Trust In Me:
Roni’s dreams of becoming a contemporary dancer were smashed under the brutal rage of her ex-husband’s fists. Getting divorced and starting over at the age of twenty-two was never her plan, but maybe in Texas, she’ll find her path. When the town’s local player, Rich, opens a Rec Center, she sees a way to rekindle her dancing dreams…and maybe have a little fun with her sexy new boss.

Rich never expected to fulfill his dreams in the town he planned to leave behind, but that’s just what he’s doing. His reputation as a noncommittal ladies’ man might make it challenging to earn respect in the business world, but he’s willing to prove that he’s serious. In fact, when it comes to pursuing Roni, he’s more than willing. But she’s taking a page out of his book, not wanting to risk another relationship. Can he convince her that his playboy days are over and that she can trust him with her heart?

My Thoughts:

Friends & Lovers flows right from one story into the next so you really will want to read them in order. I read the three as one book (which just means I just kept reading after finishing one).
In each story the characters are in their early twenties and they are each striving to find their place in the world. Enter drama of the relationship sort.

I think that because each story is written in novella style the relationships moved a bit quickly and lacked real struggles. Each couple had small hurdles but quickly and easily worked through them. So while the stories are sweet, a little sexy and happily satisfying they seemed a little too easy to me.

I did enjoy that the same characters are in each story so that by the end of the trilogy you had really gotten to know and care about everyone. These are the friends everyone wants to have. They are loyal, supportive and they've got each others backs. A sweet edition to the New Adult trend.

AshleyWilcox_zps3d350335.jpg Some may consider me a jack of all trades, but I consider myself well rounded. I’ve waitressed, styled hair, answered phones and, most recently, worked full time as mom to my two beautiful little boys. Then there was this book… Everyone and their brother started talking about this book series titled Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James. I didn’t really pay attention to the craze at first, since I wasn’t a big reader- okay, I didn’t read at all. But curiosity got the best of me, so I downloaded it to my kindle. I was immediately hooked. I read the whole series in three days. Yes, three books in three days. I kept finding all these great books that I HAD to read (just ask my credit card!). Then I started hearing voices. Voices that turned into stories; stories that were begging to get out of my head. I started writing them down on scraps of paper. Then I transferred them to my computer. Before I knew it, Planning on Forever was born. The voices in my head are still talking, so I’m still writing.

Book Excerpt

Corrine opened her hand wide and I touched my index finger to the back of the bird. The scales were very hard but smooth to the touch. It was the coolest thing!

But as its eyes turned up to me, I felt my stomach drop. The bird’s eyes were made of stone! They were dark green with blood red spots—exactly the same as the talisman.

“Isn’t it amazing?!” she exclaimed. “I made it!” Corrine swelled with pride at the proclamation.

“You made what?” I stammered, trying to collect myself.

“Here, I’ll show you how it works.” With the bird cupped in one palm, she took one of my hands with her own and placed it over the bird. “Think of something,” she whispered.

“What?”

“Close your eyes, and concentrate really hard on something. Think of anything you can hold in your hand.”

I gave her a sideways stare and reluctantly closed my eyes.

“Are you thinking of something?” she asked.

“Give me a second,” I said. It was hard to think about anything except her hand on top on my own. It was intoxicating-the warm sensation of where our skin made contact, the spaces between her fingers. I could hear her inhale and exhale, and I knew without even looking at her that her eyes were closed as
well.

Romance Book Club RevisedABOUT ROMANCE BOOK CLUB

A book club, a romance novel, and a group of professional women in Atlanta, Georgia. That might bring to mind a nice enjoyable evening of companionship and fun, but what if the women in question wanted to take things just a step further than the safety of a cozy living room meeting? When Jessie's book club decided to put some real-time research into the background of their latest reading topic, she had no idea it would land her right in the middle of Sensation's Dungeon! Chase Davenport had seen dozens of women walk into his dungeon, curious about what his lifestyle entailed. Never had one ran for the door and looked on in abject horror like a certain petite little brunette. Challenge, that's what he considered when he stared into eyes the color of a Caribbean sea at sunset filled with fear. The sexy club owner fit the description of a sexy alpha male romance character to a tee, and to Jessie that wasn't a compliment. When he offered to give her a tour of his dungeon, and discuss the reality of his lifestyle, she should have ignored the temptation. But how did anyone resist a chance to talk with a man that had a body built for sin and a smile that made her knees tremble? Determined to give the tempting beauty just a little education about his world, he had no idea unlocking her mind would result in his own need to stake his claim. He was a man accustomed to having women beg for his attention, but there was something about Jessie that called out the true alpha in him. Would she be able to accept what he really wanted from her, or walk out his dungeon never to return? It began with a love of reading romance behind the pages of a book... but in the end, reality would show a different world awaited if either of them were willing to take the chance.
