Cover Reveal: Darkness Watching by Emma L. Adams

Darkness Watching by Emma L. Adams
(Darkworld #1)
Publication date: September 30, 2013
Genres: New Adult, Paranormal, Urban Fantasy

Seventeen-year-old Ashlyn is one interview away from her future when she first sees the demons. She thinks she’s losing her mind, but the truth is far more frightening: she can see into the Darkworld, the home of spirits– and the darkness is staring back.

Desperate to escape the demons, Ash accepts a place at a university in the small town of Blackstone, in the middle of nowhere – little knowing that it isn’t coincidence that led her there but the pull of the Venantium, the sorcerers who maintain the barrier keeping demons from crossing from the Darkworld into our own world.

All-night parties, new friendships and a life without rules or limits are all part of the package of student life – but demons still stalk Ash, and their interest in her has attracted the attention of every sorcerer in the area. Ash is soon caught between her new life and a group of other students with a connection to the Darkworld, who could offer the answers she’s looking for. The demons want something from her,  and someone is determined to kill her before she can find out what it is.

In a world where darkness lurks beneath the surface, not everyone is what they appear to be..

AUTHOR BIO
Emma spent her childhood creating imaginary worlds to compensate for a disappointingly average reality, so it was probably inevitable that she ended up writing fantasy and paranormal for young adults. She was born in Birmingham, UK, which she fled at the first opportunity to study English Literature at Lancaster University. In her three years at Lancaster, she hiked up mountains, skydived in Australia, and endured a traumatic episode involving a swarm of bees in the Costa Rican jungle. She also wrote various novels and short stories. These included her first publication, a rather bleak dystopian piece, and a disturbing story about a homicidal duck (which she hopes will never see the light of day).

Now a reluctant graduate, she can usually be found in front of her writing desk, creating weird and wonderful alternative worlds. Her debut novel The Puppet Spell, published in 2013 by Rowanvale Books, is a fantasy tale for young adults and the young at heart, inspired by her lifelong love of the fantastical, mythology, and video games. Emma also writes supernatural fantasy novels for older teens and adults. Her next book,Darkness Watching, is the first in the upper-YA/New Adult Darkworld series, and will be published in September 2013 by Curiosity Quills Press.

Blitz: Silver Heart by Victoria Green

Silver Heart by Victoria Green
Publication date: July 25th 2013
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

There comes a moment in everyone's life when they must decide which road leads to personal happiness. For Dylan Silver, this is that moment...

For the past twenty-two-years, Dylan has been living in her parents' carefully crafted world, always putting her own dreams on hold to play the role of a dutiful daughter.

So when her best friend coaxes her into a winter getaway to a mountain cabin, she sees it as a chance to forget about the responsibilities waiting for her at home. At least for a little while.

But then her past catches up to her--in the form of sexy snowboarder, Sawyer Carter.

Six years ago, Dylan bid goodbye to the only boy she ever truly loved. Now he's standing right in front of her, bringing up bittersweet memories and igniting suppressed desires as he dares her to be the person she has always wanted to be.

Dylan and Sawyer's unexpected meeting is a second chance, but will a girl who doesn't believe in fate and taking risks be able to overcome her fears of losing control and finally embrace the life she desperately wants?

Only one thing is certain: after a week in Whistler, Dylan's world will never be the same.

Excerpt From Silver Heart
I made the dangerous mistake of running my finger along his forearm over a swirl of black ink. His jaw tightened, but he didn’t say anything. He just watched me explore the art on his body.
“This is my favorite.” I traced the tip of my finger across two words that formed a cross. The word live ran down the length of his arm in a vertical direction. It shared the letter i with ride which intersected it horizontally. “It describes you perfectly. You live to ride.”
“And ride to live,” he added.
He didn’t have to elaborate. I knew exactly what he meant. Sawyer had started snowboarding as a means to get out of his house and escape his father.
He shifted his weight and leaned back on his arm. The sleeve of his t-shirt moved slightly, revealing another series of letters.
“What does this say here?” I asked as I lifted up his sleeve. It took every bit of strength and self-control I had within me to hold in my gasp.
Silver.
“Is that…for that medal you won at the X-Games a while back?” I managed to ask without letting my voice crack.
“Yeah. The X-Games,” his lips said, but his eyes were telling a whole other story. His sad smile tore apart my heart, but the words that followed sewed it back up. “There’s nothing better than a silver medal.”
“Most normal people reach for gold,” I told him, tugging his sleeve back down. Before I had a chance to pull my hand away, he wrapped his fingers around my wrist, locking it in place.
“Most normal people don’t know the value of silver,” he said, gently caressing the sensitive skin above my pulse with his thumb.
“We’re not talking about medals anymore, are we?” I whispered, shivering under his touch.
He leaned in and lifted my chin up to his face, once again taking my breath away with a single, scorching look. “Were we ever?”

About Karen Ann Hopkins

A native of New York State, Karen Ann Hopkins now lives with her family on a farm in northern Kentucky, where her neighbors in all directions are members of a strict Amish community. Her unique perspective became the inspiration for the story of star-crossed lovers Rose and Noah. When she’s not homeschooling her kids, giving riding lessons or tending to a menagerie of horses, goats, peacocks, chickens, ducks, rabbits, dogs and cats, she is dreaming up her next romantic novel.

My Review

Rose has had one hell of a year. First she loses her mother to cancer and then her father decides to move her and her brothers out to the middle of nowhere far away from her friends and her dancing. Things start looking up for Leah when she meets next door neighbor Noah. Only problem is Noah is Amish and well Leah isn't.

First I have to say one thing. Leah and Noah "fell" WAY TOO FAST!!!!! Four days is just way too fast. Ok now that I have gotten that out of the way. I can talk about what I liked.

I really, really liked Noah. He is a genuinely nice guy. He has always followed the rules of his community, he loves his family and has never wished he were anything other than Amish. I liked Leah and her whole family dynamic. What I loved the most about Temptation though was that even though these two fell in love extremely quickly once they had to make a decision about whether their relationship could continue or not neither of them took it lightly. They weren't all oh just become Amish or oh just stop being Amish. Reading about the heartache they went through to make such an agonizing decision felt very real to me and I was so glad that Hopkins didn't take the easy way out here.

Plot: A romance with an original twist.
Characters: Angsty, hormonal teens. Yeah that sounds about right.
Writing: Good. I really enjoy alternating point of view stories.
Ending: Kind of a cliffhanger but actually could have ended here too.
Content: Lots of kissing and innuendos of what could/would come if they were married. And some teen drinking.
Overall: Temptation has been on my radar since it came out last year so I was really excited that I was able to find a spot for it as part of the Belonging tour. I'm happy to say that Temptation didn't disappoint. I look forward to reading more of Leah and Noah's story.

My Thoughts

Leah has sex to feel something, anything. After growing up with the most emotionally detached and cold parents imaginable she doesn't trust in love so she has given up on the idea that it will ever happen to her. Leah agrees to go to twenty sex addiction counseling sessions to prove to her best friend that she really isn't addicted to sex. During one of the last sessions in walks the sexiest most gorgeous man Leah has ever laid eyes on and then he talks and she's done for when she hears that Scottish accent.

Plot: While I have read another book about a sex addict this one wasn't dark and really it wasn't a story about an addict but about a girl who had to learn how to trust, in herself and someone else.
Characters: While I liked Leah and the way she cares for her little brother made her especially lovable, I absolutely loved Will and his best friend Finn. From Will's professor to Leah's ice queen mother to the cast of sex addicts of group therapy the characters are definitely the best part of this story.
Writing: Written from both Leah and Will's point of views but in the 3rd person I wasn't sure that I was going to like this writing style from the beginning but I ended up not noticing it for the most part and was able to enjoy the story.
Ending: A perfectly happy if not slightly predictable ending. Was super happy to see that Finn's story will be told next and I will for sure be picking that one up.
Content: The sexual tension builds and builds between Will and Leah and it was.....great! Yes folks this is a new adult novel about sex addicts and that means yes, SEX does happen.
Overall: A great cast of characters and a story that made me laugh out loud. I recommend!

Cover Reveal & Giveaway: That One Summer by C.J. Duggan

Loving Chris Henderson would be wrong. Diabolically disastrous. I mean, what is there about him to love? He’s moody, bossy, brooding, a control freak, and that’s on a good day … but there was one achingly obvious fact that haunted my every thought, every minute of every day …
He sure could kiss.
As the countdown to the new millennium begins, there is one thing everyone agrees on: no one wants to be in Onslow for New Year’s Eve.
So that can only mean one thing: road trip!
No longer the mousey, invisible, shy girl from years ago, Tammy Maskala is finally making up for all those lost summers. A new year with new friends, which astoundingly includes the bossy boy behind the bar, Chris Henderson.
She likes her new friends (at least most of them), so why does she secretly feel so out of place?
After chickening out on the trip, a last-minute change of heart sees Tammy racing to the Onslow Hotel, fearing she’s missed her chance for a ride. The last thing she expected to meet was a less-than-happy Onslow Boy leaning against his black panel van.
Now the countdown begins to reach the others at Point Shank before the party is over and the new year has begun. Alone in a car with only the infuriating Chris Henderson, Tammy can’t help but feel this is a disastrous start to what could have been a great adventure. But when the awkward road trip takes an unexpected turn, Tammy soon discovers that the way her traitorous heart feels about Chris is the biggest disaster of all.
Fogged up windows, moonlight swimming, bad karaoke and unearthed secrets; after this one summer nothing will ever be the same again.
